Popcorn Snow with the Air Blower Popcorn Popper

If you hit any Good Will store in the south you will surely find a cheap air blower popcorn maker. We try to do better in the south where gravy is almost a beverage, but there’s just something WRONG about popcorn sans butter and salt. The only time we had good popcorn out of that air blower was when my brother stood at the bowl and blasted squirt butter on the popcorn as it shot in the bowl. That rather defeats the purpose of air blowing as you know.

I hate to get rid of “perfectly good” whatevers, and the air blower popcorn maker fell in that category.

One day it was warm and sunny as it tends to be in the south even in the winter. The kids had been hoping for snow. If it’s even predicted, they usually call off school. So, the little guys love to see flakes on the weather chart. This was not one of those days where it was even hinting at a chance. But, it was a little cool to play outside. In the south, anything below 55 degrees would be pushing it. If the birdbath freezes over, then forget it. That’s cold in these parts.

I was thinking of something different to do and that old popcorn blower in the basement came to mind. Hum. I wonder if . . .

I got the air blower out and loaded it with popcorn kernels (which are very cheap). Rattle. Rattle. Rattle. Did I mention that I didn’t put the lid on that sucker? In minutes we had snow flying all over the kitchen. Yes. It was fabulous. Pop. Pop. Pop. Instant snow. It was shooting all over the place. The kids were laughing and jumping up and down. It is nice to be “hero” mom from time to time.

No. It wasn’t a big mess. Air popcorn is dry and doesn’t stick. It just bounces. We just gathered it up after we’d had our fun, and the birds had a treat in the yard.

If I’m making popcorn to eat, I love the Whirley-Pop. That makes some great popcorn and doesn’t take a huge amount of oil either. If I want indoor snow, I break out the air popper. Wanta come over and play? You’ll definitely make some memories.
